RECREATE – Rethinking Luminescence

In the EU-funded project RECREATE (“Reducing Empiricism in luminescence models to measure rates of Earth surface processes”), Dr. Svenja Riedesel is actively involved in advancing physical models for luminescence-based dating methods.

Research Objective

Feldspar luminescence is a key tool for reconstructing erosion rates, rock cooling histories and past surface temperatures. RECREATE aims to improve the precision and accuracy of these methods by gaining a deeper physical understanding of charge trapping and luminescence production in feldspar minerals.

Interdisciplinary Approach

By combining solid-state physics and geosciences, the project seeks to develop a unified and physically robust luminescence model for applications such as luminescence thermochronometry and thermometry.

Funding & Duration

RECREATE is funded by the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and ran from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2025.
