LED Conference Copenhagen 2023

From June 25 to 30, 2023, many members of our team, together with group leader Tony Reimann, traveled to Copenhagen, Denmark, for the 17th LED, the International Luminescence and Electron Spin Resonance Dating conference (fig.1). The LED is the most important conference for the presentation of current research results from the luminescence and ESR dating community. Exciting contributions came from the working group:


Svenja Riedesel led a workshop titled: "Dose rate across rock interfaces" and also gave a talk on: "Linking feldspar luminescence phenomena and mineralogy using spatially resolved techniques" (fig 2).

CLL lab manager Dominik Brill presented a poster on:"Luminescence-based chronology and transport dynamics of tsunami backwash deposits from the shelf of Portugal".

PhD student Arindam Biswas from the ANR-DFG project “Wearing Down” presented a poster entitled: "Understanding sediment transport using pIRIR signal from feldspar single grain supported by terrestrial cosmogenic radionuclides" , on first results of his PhD project (Fig. 5). 

Also, PhD student Lousie Karman-Besson from the project partner University of Toulouse, presented a poster: "Alongstream single-grain luminescence signal along a pluvio-metric gradient in Chile: A preliminary dataset" (Fig. 4).

The two PhD students Linda Maßon and Aline Zinelabedin from CRC1211 „Earth evolution at the dry limit“ also showed exciting results from their projects (fig. 7 & 9). Stimulating discussions were held at Aline's poster on: "Testing the attenuation of light in evaporite-dominated sediments from the Atacama Desert".

Linda even won the Vagn-Mejdahl-award for the best poster presentation of the LED with her poster: "Testing the applicability of standardised growth curves (SGC) for single-grain pIRIR measurements of chemically heterogeneous feldspars from the Atacama Desert, Chile." (fig. 8). Congratulations!
