Working Group Critical Zone Research

The working group explores how weathering, sediment, and soil processes shape Earth’s surface. We combine field studies, laboratory experiments, and advanced simulations, to better understand the Earth’s “Critical Zone”—the vital layer where rock, soil, water, and life interact.

The working group and the associated project “Soil and landscape dynamics - Quantifying processes in Earth's Critical Zone” is funded by the VolkswagenFoundation.
