İsmail Demirdağ is a PhD student and research assistant at the City and Regional Planning Department at the Middle East Technical University (METU). In his PhD thesis, he has focused on the impacts of institutions (both formal and informal) on regional innovative entrepreneurship activities.
He holds a BSc in Urban and Regional Planning Department from the İstanbul Technical University (ITU) (2011) and a MSc in Regional Planning (2015) from the METU. In his Master’s thesis, he analyzed the association between entrepreneurship and regional economic development and growth in the context of 26 NUTS-II regions of Turkey.
From 2013 to 2017, he also worked as a researcher in the project “Governing Urban Diversity: Creating Social Cohesion, Social Mobility and Economic Performance in Today’s Hyper-diversified Cities”, supported by the EU 7th Framework Program.
He is currently a visiting fellow in the working group “Economic Geography and Global South” at the Institute of Geography at the University of Cologne.

Regional Focus: Turkey, especially Adana, Bolu, Elazığ and Van cities.
