Department of Geosciences
Geography studies the earth's surface, its landscapes and spatial structures as well as the interactions between humans and the environment. The focus is on understanding the world in which we live - from natural processes to social developments.
A particular focus is on the analysis of human-environment relationships in the context of sustainable development. As an interdisciplinary subject, geography is divided into two central areas:
Human geography deals with the structure and dynamics of cultures, societies, economies and the spatial nature of human activity.
Physical geography explores the interrelationships and processes of our earth.
Through this combination of natural and social sciences, geography enables a holistic understanding of complex global challenges.
