The GIS & RS Group is headed by Prof. Dr. Georg Bareth. The focus in teaching is on GIS-based spatial analysis and on hyper- and multispectral data analyses. In research, combined GIS and RS analyses for geographical, archaeological, and agricultural purposes are under investigation.

Prof. Dr. Christina Bogner holds the chair of the working group Ecosystem Research.
Prof. Dr. Boris Braun
Prof. Dr. Boris Braun is Professor of Human and Economic Geography. His research interests focus on environmental economic geography, regional development, and the environmental and social impacts of globalisation.
Prof. Dr. Peter Dannenberg
Prof. Dr. Peter Dannenberg holds a chair in Human Geography. His research focuses on City and Regional Development. His interests include globalization and trade, rural areas, conflict between humans and the environment, the global south (in particular Sub-Saharan Africa) and the European Union.
Prof. Dr. Frauke Kraas
Prof. Dr. Frauke Kraas holds a chair in Human Geography. Her research focuses on Urban and Cultural Geography with a special interest in analysis of metropolises and megacities as well as socioeconomic processes in East- and Southeast Asia.
Prof. Dr. Tim Mansfeldt
Prof. Dr. Tim Mansfeldt is leading the working group of Soil Geography / Soil Sciences. His research focus is on harmful substances in contaminated soils and analyses of characteristics and biochemical turnover in soils under reducing conditions.

Prof. Dr. Tony Reimann holds the chair in Geomorphology and Geochronology.
Prof. Dr. Javier Revilla Diez
Prof. Dr. Javier Revilla Diez holds the chair of the working group Economic Geography and Global South. His research interests focus on challenges triggered by enforced structural change and increased interdependence of economic processes that are a result of an intensified globalization. As a consequence, there are simultaneous processes of growth, stagnation and decline across the globe.
Jun.-Prof. Dr. Svenja Riedesel
Jun.-Prof. Dr. Svenja Riedesel holds the chair of the working group Critical Zone Research. The working group explores how weathering, sediment, and soil processes shape Earth’s surface.
Prof. Dr. Karl Schneider
Prof. Dr. Karl Schneider holds the chair of Hydrogeography and Climatology. His research focuses particularly on interactions of water fluxes, plant growth and nutrient flow at the land surface. Methodical emphasis is on the development of land surface process models and remote sensing.

Associate Professor Dr. Carsten Butsch has been working as a research assistant at the University of Bonn since June 2022. His research areas include geographical health research, development geography, urban geography, migration research, and risk research. His regional focus is India.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Renate Gerlach
Prof. Dr. Renate Gerlach ist Honorarprofessorin im Bereich der Geoarchäologie. Ihr Arbeitsschwerpunkt liegt in der geoarchäologischen Erforschung der holozänen Landschaftsgeschichte. Sie leitet den Sachbereich Geowissenschaften des archäologischen Fachamtes (Landschaftsverband Rheinland, Rheinisches Amt für Bodendenkmalpflege) in Bonn.

Prof. Dr. apl. Manfred Nutz ist apl. Professor im Bereich der Anthropogeographie. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte liegen in der Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung Deutschlands sowie der angewandten Wohnungsmarktforschung.
