At numerous stations, the participants were able to understand theoretical content from their studies directly in practice and reflect critically on site. In Duisburg, the transformation of the inner harbor and current developments in the Hochfeld district were among the topics discussed. In Osnabrück, the focus was on urban development, tourism and digital technologies in agriculture. Other items on the agenda included the water city of Limmer and the wholesale market in Hanover, the Lüneburg Heath as a cultural landscape, the Alte Land, the Port of Hamburg and urban planning and creative industry developments in Hamburg and Berlin. Tropical Islands in Brandenburg was also considered as an example of rural tourism and structural change.

The excursion was particularly varied as it combined expert talks, city tours, site visits, excursions on foot and by bike and joint discussions. The excursion thus offered a variety of insights into current geographical issues and impressively illustrated how spatial transformation processes can be experienced on site.
